Is this a cure for spinal cord injury?

Certainly not. The Walk On program offers a pathway to maximising your functional recovery. That means we will work with you to stimulate your body through a tried and tested intensive exercise methodology to elicit maximum motor and sensory recovery.

Why am I training if this isn’t a cure?

The reality of spinal cord injury is that you and your body face many challenges. There are many complications of spinal cord injury. Keeping your body healthy, active and stimulated are integral to your ongoing physical and mental well being. Intensive exercise recovery training will assist you in meeting every day challenges, ensure you achieve your maximum recovery potential and place you in good stead to benefit from the medical breakthroughs of tomorrow.

Can I come to Walk On after training at Project Walk?

Certainly, in fact we encourage it. Project Walk has been helping people with SCI recover since 1999. If you wish to travel to Carlsbad and train at Project Walk please let us know and we will be only to happy to assist you in making arrangements. Walk On and Project Walk will be working hand in hand to assist you with your recovery.

When do I start recovery training?

As soon as possible.

Consult your  GP or SCI physician and obtain their clearance that you are physically in a stable condition to allow you to undertake recovery training.

I’m concerned about bladder or bowel accidents whilst training.

Management of these issues are your (and your attendant carer’s) responsibility, however you can be assured we will assist you to avoid any problems whilst you are training. Our recovery specialists are familiar with the difficultiesassociated with a spinal cord injury and are trained to help you with management of minor personal care issues. In the event of unexpected problems toilet and shower facilities are available on site. 

Please don’t allow this issue to prevent you from recovery training.
